Amended Lava Cakes Recipe Volcano Cakes: 1 pkg. chocolate brownie cake mix (included) 1 egg 1/2 cup melted butter cooking spray 1 T flour Lava Sauce: 1 pkg. chocolate frosting mix (included) 1 T water 1 T softened butter Directions: Preheat oven to 350ºF. Place oven rack in middle position. Prepare pans with baking spray and lightly dust with flour. Place pans on metal baking sheet for stability. Use a microwave to melt butter on medium power for 30 seconds. If not fully melted, allow butter to melt in its own liquid. Reheat in 10 second intervals until melted. Let butter cool. In a medium bowl, combine mix, egg and melted butter. Blend by hand for 60 strokes until completely moistened (a great counting exercise for kids!). Divide batter evenly into the two pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes then have an adult open the oven and check to make sure the cakes have baked thoroughly*. While cakes are baking, prepare the chocolate lava sauce. In small mixing bowl, add mix, warm water and softened butter**. Use electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Mix on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Allow cakes to cool and flip pans over to release the “Volcano Tops”. Place cakes, rounded side up, on a plate or in a bowl. Use prepared chcolate sauce to fill the insides of the Volcano cakes, spilling the chocolate lava up over the sides. Enjoy! *Use a clean toothpick to poke the inside of the cake to make sure it comes out clean. If no cake sticks to the toothpick, then your cakes are finished! Cakes will start to pull away from the sides when they are done. ** If sauce is too stiff, add a bit more water.
