Rocky Road Brownies
(Adult supervision required. Ages 5+)
Ingredients included with kit:
1 package chocolate brownie mix
1 package marshmallows
1 package crushed mixed nuts
You will need:
1 egg
1/2 cup melted butter
vegetable oil cooking spray
1 Tbsp. flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Place oven rack in middle position.
Prepare pans with baking spray and lightly dust with flour. Place pans on metal baking sheet for stability. Melt butter on medium power for 30 seconds. If not melted, allow butter to melt in its own liquid. Reheat in 10 second intervals until melted, let cool.
In a medium bowl, combine brownie mix, egg and melted butter. Blend by hand for 60 strokes until completely moistened (a great counting exercise for kids!). Divide batter evenly into the two pans. Bake for 12-16 minutes then have an adult open the oven and pull the baking sheet out of the oven. Quickly sprinkle marshmallows and nut mixture evenly over both brownies. Place the baking sheet with the pans directly back in the oven for another 10 to 14 minutes*. Let cool. Slide a knife along the edges of the trays to release the brownies. Cut, serve and enjoy!
*Hint: Use a clean toothpick test. If no cake sticks to the toothpick, then your brownies are done! Keep in mind that you should have gooey marshmallow on top, but cooked brownies inside. Brownies will start to pull away from the sides of the pan when they are done. |
